Architectual Drawing in Rome
The time I spent visiting and sketching in Rome has definitely been a wonderful experience that I’ll always treasure. It has exposed me to many great things that have really impacted me, but Rome has so much depth that I’ve barely scratched the surface. I truly hope I get another chance to come back and explore it more. From these experiences I am taking away a greater understanding of classic styles of western architecture, an interest in how pre-existing structures can be built over or renovated, and an appreciation for cultures that have long roots grown around rich, ancient soil.
Being here in Rome seeing and touching these buildings has been an invaluable lesson I’ll be keeping with me. A reoccurring theme I have seen throughout Rome that interests me is old sites or buildings being reused, adapted or sometimes built over. With today’s sustainability issues and green building designs, recycling previous structures is a very important concept. I hope to someday apply these Roman themes to present day applications.
